There are 3 regions in which prices have risen most (and keep rising, although at a slower pace). They have 3 main things in common: they are coastal areas, each is served by an international airport, and all international schools are located therein. They are:
1st - Lisbon and the Estoril Coast, where the top prices can be found.2nd - Porto, where prices have recently risen considerably.3rd - The Algarve, a holiday and retirement destination, internationally famous for its beaches and golf courses.
Real bargains can nevertheless be found in places such as the following:
- Rural locations within a 1 hour’s drive from the major centres of Lisbon and Porto.
- The Viseu District, in Central Portugal, which is served by a regional airport that has daily connections to Bragança, Lisbon and Faro and is used as a private jet landing base by some owners of nearby wine estates.
Despite the recent rises, Portugal remains very attractive in terms of real estate prices when compared to the EU average, and this remains a key factor in this market’s positive outlook.
